Six Pack in Your 50s, Why Not?!!

Last week, I shared with you that physical fitness is very important to me. As a matter of fact, it has been said, "Physical fitness is a gift you give yourself" and I try to gift myself daily with some sort of exercise and clean eating.
I would love to say, "I just woke up this way" but it takes hard work and smart choices to get and stay fit.
5 Tips on Creating and Maintaining the 6-Pack you desire:
First thing I want you to know is that abs ARE made in the kitchen! We must eat the right balance of protein, fat and carbs to achieve the washboard stomach we dream about. Sugary foods and beverages as well as foods containing saturated and trans fats are not our friends. You might want to stay away from alcoholic beverages as well.
Increase your cardio. Do cardio exercises at least 3 times a week, for at least 30 minutes each time. Increasing your cardio will aid in helping you burn off that stubborn belly fat. The exact amount you need depends on your personal goals and metabolism.
Up your core exercises. Your abs are muscles that must be built like every other part of your body. Good ole crunches are good to get you started. Do at least for three (3) sets of 15. You can add weight for greater effectiveness. Another great core exercise is planking. You may have to build your time up here. You can start with holding your plank for a minute or two and increase to 3 minutes. Try this four (4) times. Planking not only strengthens and defines your abs, it also helps strengthen your back, shoulders and legs.
Decrease water retention. Watch your daily sodium intake and drink plenty of water. The lowest recommended amount of water intake should be eight (8)-8ounce glasses per day. Check with your doctor to find out the best amount for you.
Eliminate late night meals. Stop consuming food 2 hours before bedtime. Oh and eating full meals and snacks AT bedtime is an absolute no no.
As you can see, defining your abs take work but it's never to late. All it takes is a decision and a plan that you are willing to commit to until it's done. Abs aren't made in an hour and remember, great abs start in the kitchen. So skip the pancakes, fried chicken and forego the branded six pack for your own. You can be fit and over 50, the choice is up to you!
